I am a second-year M.A. Musicology student at McGill University, Canada. My current thesis project is about André Mathieu, the “Little Canadian Mozart,” and his curious reception history within the Quebecois performance canon. My thesis, entitled “Performing Québécois Nationalism: The Reception and Revival of André Mathieu,” is funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC).
Next year, I will return to McGill to pursue a PhD in Musicology and Gender and Women’s Studies, where I will research intersections of music, performance, identity, language, and politics in Montreal’s Gay Village from 1980–1995.
I also work as a freelance music journalist in Montreal and currently serve as the Web and Social Media Editor for La Scena Musicale.
